At More 4 mums we have spent the last few days photographing new stock for our spring and summer ranges. As we sell lots of different styles from many designers this can take a long time. I am not the best photographer in the world but do feel I am getting better! What I really hate is all the ironing you have to do first!!!

We have updated our home page with some of the new images below and are slow loading the stock. Many of the pieces could be bought and worn now with the addition of a little cardi or jacket or worn with your winter boots. You can buy the new season stock now and it should last until baby arrives with any luck.

We have been busy finding some new items for the site including a great Maternity seamless support top and a Nursing scarf. We are also busy trying to take some photos of new summer stock but it has been so grey the last few days they just look a little sad. Will have to wait for the sun to come out.

My daughter came home from school yesterday after walking with our neighbour with a lovely little bunch of snowdrops for her Mum - spring must be around the corner now the snow has gone.

Families and the Credit Crunch in the news!

27 per cent of parents have said they might not be able to pay their bills in six months time, according to the Family and Parenting Institute’s latest report.
According to ‘Families and the credit crunch 2008’ (based on a YouGov survey of over 5,000 parents), more and more families are finding it harder to balance their budgets.
Sally Gimson from the Family and Parenting Institute said: “While previous generations battled budgets during tough times like the war and the collapse of industries, for some younger families this is a whole new ball game.”

But, parents not only told the Family and Parenting Institute how they were faring in these hard economic times – but also revealed some of the ways that they are saving money. Driving slower, swapping clothes and toys with friends and growing their own vegetables are just some ways the nation’s families are cutting down on costs.

As the new year starts I am trying not to make any resolutions as it is always depressing when they fail before the end of January. This is a time to take stock and review successes and failures from the past year and to try and plan for the year ahead.

I have had a good year with the business and More4mums has grown with the website and we have expanded into new markets such as Amazon. It is now a real business rather than the little hobby it started as on ebay a few years ago. We have added new suppliers such as Carriwell and Bexi and are constantly trying to improve and change.

Our latest little item to be added is a cute Betty Boo T-shirt - perfect for brightening up a dull January Morning.

What will 2009 hold for us - well for all you pregnant Mums you have one great little gift to look forward to - it does help lift spirits when you have young children around - you can't be down for long!

Breastfeeding Hints and Tips

As a mum who breastfed two hungry babies I know how difficult it can sometimes be, I know its natural but it still has to be learnt - hopefully some of the advice below may help.

Breastfeeding is a learnt art and should not hurt, although some mothers describe the initial sucks in the early days as tender, as the baby stretches the breast tissue. If you experience nipple soreness beyond a slight tenderness when your baby latches on you may need to make some adjustments so you can be comfortable and enjoy breastfeeding your baby.

Uncomfortable positioning and attachment is the most frequent cause of sore nipples. Some nursing mothers find these tips useful:
● Support your baby on her side on your lap, coming to the breast slightly from underneath. To feed on the left breast, for example, with your baby facing you, hold her bottom to you with your right elbow, your right hand on her shoulder blades, your finger and thumb either side of her neck.
● Allow your breast to rest naturally, i.e. not held up to your baby. If you wish to support your breast, keep your fingers well back from the nipple.
● The baby's chin is held to the breast about 3 cm from the nipple (nose to nipple).
● Your baby will tilt his head back a bit, open his mouth wide with his tongue down and take a big mouthful of breast tissue along the tongue, while you bring your baby onto the breast.
● When the baby is sucking strongly, the mother will often bring her left arm around the baby so the baby's head is along this arm, and then the right arm can relax.
● Your baby should come off the breast when she has had enough. You can then offer the other breast, mirroring the above.

Other mothers prefer the rugby or clutch position, with their baby's feet out behind them, or the cradle hold (across the lap), or lying down. In each position it is important to enable your baby to take a large mouthful of breast so that your nipple is protected. This should immediately be more comfortable for you. If the pain persists beyond the first few 'stretching' sucks after a day or two whilst healing is happening, help from a breastfeeding specialist is advisable, as there could be other causes.

I have spent the few days stuck at the computer. We sell on Amazon.co.uk as well as our own website www.more4mums.co.uk/ and Amazon are opening a new apparel category. We currently sell in the baby section with our Maternity Clothes so I am hoping more people may find us! Have been updating all the listings and doing a huge spreadsheet so have gone a bit mad. Recyle and Freecylce

I am a big fan of the freecycle site. It is a great way to pass on things that you no longer need but don't want to just throw away. There are lots of things that the charity shops don't want but someone else just might! I have recently passed on some childrens toys that mey youngest has grown out of and we aquired a great swing this summer! All in all you can't loose! You can join at http://uk.freecycle.org/. You have to find a local group and subscribe but it is all straightforward to do.

I have just joined the Federation for Small Businesses as sometimes it feels a bit lonely running a business on my own. They offer some good incentives and also support and a local club to connect with. http://www.fsb.org.uk/

We have had a couple of lovely sunny days here but today the 24th of September it seems as if autumn has definitely arrived. It is damp and miserable and our local tesco was stocking up on Christmas Sweets already !!! it does seem to be getting earlier and earlier.

Latest news - how will it affect us all?

The latest banking news about Halifax/Bank of Scotland seems a little closer to home than all the doom and gloom news from America and investment banks. My first job over 20 years ago was at the counter of the bank as a summer job and it was enough to put me off for life lol! Tedious was not half of it, my job was to file all the cheques away and then bring them back out to send off with the statements. It will be sad to lose the Bank of Scotland name and all the job losses will hit hard. I do wonder where it will all end but unfortunately the working person will always end up worse off some how.

I have been having a few issues with my website hosting for the last week or so but have found a great new web designer who is also doing the hosting so I can get on with the selling!! Technology is great when it is working but when it goes wrong I am lost!! Have a look at the site now its working OK and see what you think http://www.more4mums.co.uk/

This week we have added lots of new Funmum maternity wear and also stocked up on cheap maternity nighties. I have also found some cute new maternity denim pinafores that would look great for the winter with thick tights and a big bump !

Somehow it seems easier to save your pennies in the winter as you can stay at home and stock up on warming soup and stews but September seems a bit too soon for the weather to be getting cold already (sorry if you are having an Indian summer where you are but it s freezing and damp here in Scotland today)

Credit Crunch Mums

As a frequent internet user I thought I should find a space to share my voice with the many millions out there (are there more than millions, maybe billions?) As a stay at home mum of two young children and the proud owner of a fledgling internet business I am feeling the pinch as much as everyone else at the moment. (I am also proud of my girls lol!)

With rising prices on everything from bread and milk to petrol, families seem to be hardest hit again. On a day to day basis my weekly shop has risen by about £20 a week in the last year - however this may have something to do with a very hungry two year old ! You may have noticed but this is not a hard hitting economic analysis - it's down to earth and full of everyday experiences, hints and tips.

I'm an expert at making a few pounds here and there, if there is a saving to be made or deal to be found I'm there. I wasn't born in bred in Aberdeen for nothing!

My site http://www.more4mums.co.uk/ is still a young business and we specialise in discount maternity and nursing wear - do you see a theme growing here? I started off as many e-commerce businesses do on ebay but after a run in with the rules and regulations (and a husband who got fed up with the petty mindedness) we left and set up on our own. It has been a steep learning curve but does prove a distraction from temper tantrums and snotty noses and gives you back a sense of self worth.

My other side line is Mystery Shopping - if you don't know what it is I will explain more later but it means you get paid to go shopping - how good is that when you feel guilty even window shopping these days?

More about the business next time but for now my weekly money saving tip:

Mums when shopping for toddlers try and look past the baby food isle - many of the manufacturers see babies and stick another 100% on the prices.

Don't buy baby porridge - buy ready brek and save a fortune!! Weetabix is another great baby cereal - buy the stores own brand and save even more.
Don't buy the baby organic raisins - go to Asda and buy their multi packs of organic raisins at half the price.
Do sign up to all the baby clubs you can and get free vouchers and samples. I will find a list for you for next time.

Take care and look after the pennies, as the pounds look after themselves - as my old grannie used to say.
